Africa-Press – Zambia. The Socialist Party (SP) Spokesperson, Frank Bwalya, has accused the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) of creating mess instead of cleaning it up. According to Mr Bwalya, there is no mess that the UPND is cleaning up, contrary to claims by the party officials and their supporters that the country is in an economic crisis because of the mess left by the previous Patriotic Front (PF) government.
Speaking on Joy FM and Prime Television Zambia today, Mr Bwalya laughed off the claims and wondered how the UPND could claim to have cleaned up the mess when things are worse than they found them. He pointed out that if the previous government was giving six bags of fertilizer, and the UPND government promised to raise it to eight, that could be considered as cleaning up the mess. However, if the government reduces the number of bags of fertilizer, then it cannot claim to be cleaning up the mess.
Mr Bwalya also accused the UPND government of corruption, citing the single sourcing in the fertilizer scandal. He argued that instead of buying fertilizer through Kafue Nitrogen Chemicals, which has the capacity to do that, the government single-sourced somebody who is close to the President or to the system. He said that this was not cleaning up the mess, but rather creating it.
“It is clear that the UPND government is not cleaning up the mess. They are only interested in making themselves and their cronies rich at the expense of the poor Zambians. This is unacceptable, and we will not sit back and watch them destroy our country,” said Mr Bwalya.
Furthermore, Mr Bwalya accused the UPND government of lacking a clear plan for the country’s economic recovery. He argued that the government was only interested in borrowing money from international lenders, which would only exacerbate the country’s debt crisis.
“The UPND government has no plan for our country. They are only interested in borrowing money from international lenders, which will only increase our debt burden. This is not sustainable, and it will only lead to more problems for our country in the long run,” he said.
In response to Mr Bwalya’s claims, the UPND spokesperson, Cornelius Mweetwa, dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically motivated. He argued that the UPND government had inherited a mess from the previous PF government, and was doing its best to clean it up.
“The accusations by Mr Bwalya are baseless and politically motivated. The UPND government inherited a mess from the previous government, and we are doing our best to clean it up. We have put in place measures to stabilize the economy and create jobs for our people. This is a long-term process, and we are confident that we will succeed,” said Mr Mweetwa.
In conclusion, Mr Bwalya accused the UPND government of creating more mess instead of cleaning it up, and urged them to adopt socialist principles that would benefit the majority of the people. However, the UPND government dismissed the accusations as politically motivated, and argued that they were doing their best to stabilize the economy and create jobs for the people.
