Africa-Press – Zambia. Opposition Leadership Movement Leader Dr. Richard Silumbe says the UPND government must not ignore the role countries like Russia play in the global economy and its impact on developing countries like Zambia.
Dr. Silumbe who says Zambia’s cost of living for ordinary citizens has taken an escalation trajectory because of the economic models employed by government and a total shift of the country’s foreign policy towards the west, has advised government to revisit the current foreign policy shift and accommodate Russia as it still plays in huge role in the global economy and can help to address Zambia’s indebtedness.
According to the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection –JCTR-, the cost of living for a family of five in Lusaka increased by K230.75 in February 2023 to K9, 278 compared to K9, 047.31 recorded in January, 2023.
And Dr. Silumbe is saddened that the cost of living has continued to escalate beyond acceptable levels for ordinary citizens owing to the failure by government to put in place remedial measures that can prevent majority citizens from sliding into utter poverty.
