Africa-Press – Zambia. FORMER Patriotic Front (PF) Kasama Central lawmaker Kelvin Sampa has appeared in court for allegedly stealing US$150,000 entrusted to him to buy gold for two businessmen.
Mr Sampa, a former PF national youth chairperson, is also accused of possession of 110 pieces of forged US dollar bank notes.
The 52-year-old appeared before Lusaka magistrate Irene Wishimanga facing four counts of theft by agent and possession of paper or implements for forgery.
It is alleged that between July 27 and September 30 this year, he was entrusted with US$70,000 cash by Kunihiro Fugishima to buy gold on his behalf but he allegedly stole the money.In the second count, it is alleged that between August 1 and September 30, this year, Satoshi Sakamono entrusted Sampa with US$80,000 to purchase gold but the accused stole the money.
Accusations in the third count are that last month, the accused had in his possession 110 pieces of forged US$100 bank notes.
It is alleged in the fourth count that on the same day, the accused had 7,622 pieces of light green paper intended to resemble and pass as special paper, the size US$100 bill.
Sampa, who has a lawyer, pleaded not guilty to the charges and the magistrate adjourned the case to next year, January 13, for commencement of trial.
