Africa-Press – Zambia. As the first elective FAZ Provincial Annual General Meeting kicks off in Choma today, the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) and FAZ must quickly resolve their stand off before FIFA slaps Zambia with a dreadful ban.
Soccer being such a uniting force must be encouraged to continue. Failure to address the stand-off could become a recipe for disaster as frustrations by the fans can easily become political.
Let’s bare in mind that FIFA has strict regulations governing football worldwide, and the ongoing tensions between FIFA and NSCZ may lead to a ban.
Such a ban would have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only the sport but also the country’s peace and stability. With the economy struggling and many citizens living in poverty, football provides a much-needed escape.
However, if a FIFA ban takes effect, the frustration and anger of soccer fans is likely to be directed at the government, potentially leading to more protest votes against the regime.
It is crucial that the President intervenes to restrain his Minister, Elvis Nkandu, whose actions may have severe repercussions. FIFA’s authority should not be underestimated, as seen in its dealings with Russia and Zimbabwe.
