Africa-Press – Zambia. The Ministry of Energy says it has started receiving bids from oil marketing companies that want to use the TAZAMA pipeline.
This follows the successful completion of the review of guidelines governing the TAZAMA pipeline Open Access Framework.
Ministry of Energy Principal Public Relations Officer BOB SIANJALIKA says all OMCs both local and foreign are free to bid to use the pipeline to transport diesel from Dar es Salam to Zambia.
Mr SIANJALIKA says the deadline of the invitation for bids is slated for 30th April ,2025.
He says the open access framework has promoted competition, improved efficiency, and enhanced supply security in the Zambian fuel industry.
Mr SIANJALIKA said this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka today.
And in a separate interview , Energy Expert JOHNSTONE CHIKWANDA has welcomed Governments move to initiate a review of guidelines governing the TAZAMA pipeline Open Access Framework.
Dr. CHIKWANDA says the review of the guidelines governing the pipeline will improve efficiency in Zambia petroleum transportation system.
He says this will enable third party access to the TAZAMA pipeline infrastructure.
Dr. CHIKWANDA has however advised the Government to engage with Kenya to learn on how they have managed to perfect the processes using the open access policy on their fuel pipeline over the past 20 years.
He said this in an interview with ZNBC in Lusaka today.
Dr. CHIKWANDA said so far the initiative has also enabled greater competition and improved utilisation of the TAZAMA pipeline.
Government recently announced that it had initiated a review of the guidelines governing the TAZAMA pipeline Open Access Framework aimed at enhancing the framework by incorporating operational insights gathered since it’s implementation on 1st April 2025.
