Africa-Press – Zambia. Residents of Lusaka’s Chalala area have called for the closure of two dams at the former Eastern Quarries, which were created as a result of mining activities.
One of the residents, Suwilanji Nambeya, stated that although one of the dams has dried up, incidents of drowning in the remaining dam occur almost weekly.
Another resident, Abishackie Mbale, told ZNBC News that there is an urgent need to erect a security fence around the dam to prevent further tragedies.
