Chaminuka Calls For Rufaro Stadium Closure Over Poor Turf

Africa-Press – Zambia. Dynamos head coach Saul Chaminuka has called for the suspension of Rufaro Stadium, citing the poor condition of the playing surface.

Chaminuka made the remarks on Saturday after watching his team fall to a 2-0 defeat against Herentals in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match.

He argued that the stadium no longer meets top-flight football standards and urged authorities to temporarily shut it down until the pitch is restored to acceptable conditions. He said:

I think the pitch has deteriorated. We train on a better pitch, but we come to play on a pitch that is beyond repair.

This ground should be suspended so that it recovers. I don’t know what the owners of the pitch think about it.

Harare, despite having more teams in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) than any other city in Zimbabwe, faces a shortage of stadiums.

As a result, the Harare City Council-owned Rufaro Stadium is currently shared by four top-flight teams and is also occasionally used by clubs from the ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League.

Rufaro Stadium serves as the home ground for Dynamos, CAPS United, and Herentals.

The stadium was re-opened last year, having been closed since 2019 to undergo refurbishment.
