HH Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Constitution Reforms

Africa-Press – Zambia. President Hakainde Hichilema says Constitution reforms are intended to address long-standing gaps and improve service delivery for all Zambians.

President Hichilema has also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a Constitution that reflects the will and aspirations of the people.He noted that the constitutional review process is not designed to advance the interests of the government, but to empower citizens.

The President says the reforms seek to promote fairness in the distribution of resources and widen participation in governance, especially for women, young people, and persons with disabilities.

President Hichilema said this after holding a constructive engagement with leaders of the Oasis Forum, a coalition comprising the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops -ZCCB, the Council of Churches in Zambia -CCZ-, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia, and the Non-Governmental Gender Organisations Coordinating Council -NGOCC.

The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, giving the Forum’s leadership an opportunity to present their concerns regarding the proposed constitutional amendments.President Hichilema also acknowledged the ongoing work of the Technical Committee, which has been consulting citizens across the country.

He expressed appreciation for their efforts and said their submissions will be critical in shaping a process informed by the voices of citizens from all parts of Zambia.The President thanked the Oasis Forum leadership for accepting his invitation and engaging in dialogue, noting that constructive engagement remains the best approach to resolving national differences.

While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, President Hichilema stressed that sustained dialogue offers greater opportunities for consensus- building.Both parties agreed to continue consultations in the interest of national unity.

Meanwhile, President Hichilema informed the Oasis Forum that he will meet other civil society organisations and interest groups that support the reform process on Monday, December 1st 2025.

The President says the government has a duty to engage all stakeholders.President Hichilema said the Constitution belongs to the people of Zambia, and that the government’s role is to facilitate a process that enables citizens to shape a legal framework that reflects their collective aspirations.

President Hichilema said that it is for this reason that the Technical Committee was appointed to collect views from the Zambian people.The President also extended his gratitude to the Oasis Forum for their constructive engagement.
