Solwezi Businesses Back 24-Hour Economy Policy

Africa-Press – Zambia. Businesses in Solwezi are warming up to government’s push for a 24-hour economy, with expectations of increased growth and new opportunities.

The North-Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry says the initiative has the potential to transform how businesses operate.

Chief Executive Officer Mukuka Mulenga explained that allowing companies to operate beyond traditional hours will drive innovation, improve productivity, and create more jobs, particularly for young people entering the labour market.

Mr. Mulenga added that the mining sector is expected to benefit significantly, as continuous operations by support industries will help boost production and revenue.

Meanwhile, checks in Solwezi’s Central Business District show that many businesses are ready to embrace extended trading hours.

Some business owners said operating round the clock will help them increase profits and better serve customers. Others, however, cautioned that the success of the initiative will depend on reliable electricity supply and improved security.
