Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>FOREIGN NATIONALS ARE REPORTEDLY SNEAKING INTO ZAMBIA AT NAKONDE BORDER TO ACCESS SCHOOLS, FOLLOWING THE INTRODUCTION OF FREE EDUCATION. Muchinga Provincial Education Officer (PEO) Allan Kaoma said his office has received reports of foreigners sneaking into Zambia at Nakonde border to access free education in Zambian schools.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kaoma also disclosed that most schools in Nakonde are congested following the implementation of free education. He said in some schools he visited, there are over 60 grade 8 pupils in one class instead of less than 40.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kaoma named some of the highly congested schools as Nakonde and Ntindi Secondary Schools. Meanwhile, Muchinga province minister Henry Sikazwe has warned school authorities in the province to desist from requesting parents to pay school fees and other requisites.<\/p>\n

Mr Sikazwe has warned that schools that will be found wanting will not be spared but dealt with severely. He said government is doing everything possible to provide free education to everyone to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor through education.<\/p>\n

He said schools should not request for money, reams of paper or cobra saying all these components are included in the grants. The minister has since directed Mpika District Commissioner to act on the matter quickly.<\/p>\n

Mr Sikazwe sounded the warning when he paid a courtesy call on chief Chikwanda In the company of Mpika DC David Siame and other government officials. Meanwhile, Chief Chikwanda of assured the minister of swift action on the matter.<\/p>\n

He wondered what the said schools want to archive by getting money both from government and parents.
