Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Systematic Land Titling project, an exercise earmarked to issue 50,000 title deeds to property owners in Ndola, has gained momentum in the city. Enumerators collecting information on the size and ownership of the plots are visiting various residencies as part of the process towards the issuance of title deeds within a shorter period than the regular<\/p>\n

process. Following the collection of information, plot owners would be asked to verify their details and later make part payments for their title deeds.<\/p>\n

The exercise started mid January in Ndola and Kabushi, George and Dola Hill townships were visited first. Other areas earmarked for the exercise are Mitengo, Chifubu, Kawama,<\/p>\n

Pamodzi, Nkwazi and Kanyanje. Others are Mapalo, Ndeke, Masala, Mushili, Lubuto, Kantolomba, Mwenye and Twapia townships. More areas could be added as the exercise proceeds.<\/p>\n

The Systematic Land Titling project is a Ministry of Lands project implemented by Medici Land Governance and is aimed at expediting the process of issuing title deeds.<\/p>\n

The project is mandated to issue four million title deeds to residents in Zambia in order to harmonise land ownership records and empowe Zambians with a capacity to obtain bank loans or further develop their properties systematically.<\/p>\n

The Systematic Land Titling project manager, Mr. Emmanuel Tembo said proper land administration was important for sustainable development. He said the Ministry of Lands through this project was working together with local authorities like the Ndola City Council to<\/p>\n

harmonise documents of land ownership and enhance planning. Mr. Tembo said Councils also had an opportunity to increase revenue from increased rate payers who would be captured through the exercise.<\/p>\n

He said this during the sensitisation meeting for Councillors this week. The Ndola Mayor, Mr. Jones Kalyati urged Councillors to encourage the residents to cooperate with enumerators because title deeds were essential for wealth creation for the residents of Ndola.<\/p>\n
