Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>Many of our people have a misunderstanding of the polygamy law being proposed. Zambia isn\u2019t about to introduce polygamy. Polygamy already exists in Zambia. Polygamy is legal in Zambia under customary law.<\/p>\n

What is being proposed is to bring all marriages under statute instead of the current situation where we have civil marriage laws, and customary marriage laws.<\/p>\n

The new law won\u2019t mean that Zambians are now free to have polygamy. If your faith doesn\u2019t allow polygamy; the law won\u2019t force you to. But the law will bring customary marriages under statute.<\/p>\n
