Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>GOLDEN Party of Zambia president Jackson Silavwe says the new dawn government is turning out to be the most anti-poor and pro-foreign monopoly capital government Zambia has ever had since independence.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the recent fuel increment announced by the Energy Regulation Board, Silavwe said the government\u2019s economics seems to burying both the poor and local businesses in the grave of very high cost of living and doing business.<\/p>\n

The ERB has adjusted upwards the pump prices of petroleum products by K1.80 per litre for petrol, K2.37 per litre for diesel and K2.51 per litre for kerosene.<\/p>\n

ERB board chairperson Reynolds Bowa announced at a briefing on Thursday that the adjustment in the pump prices was due to the unprecedented increase in the price of petroleum products on the international market.<\/p>\n

Bowa said the recorded increase in international oil prices was mainly attributed to the global oil demand and supply imbalance caused by a combination of factors such as the continued geopolitical tension in Ukraine and Russia and increased oil demand worldwide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new dawn government is turning out to be the most anti-poor and pro-foreign monopoly capital government Zambia has ever had since independence. This month\u2019s insensitive fuel increase is testament to that position,\u201d Silavwe said.<\/p>\n

He charged that President Hichilema\u2019s economics is out of touch with the reality on the ground. Silavwe said the government\u2019s economics seems to favour the foreign monopoly capital operating in Zambia than majority poor Zambians.<\/p>\n

\u201cUnder the new dawn \u2018normal\u2019, small and medium local businesses will continue to be punished with every monthly price review and the majority poor Zambians will continue to face off with high higher poverty levels. New dawn government must be lifting the poor out of poverty not burying them in it. The new dawn economics seems to burying both the poor and local businesses in the grave of very high cost of living and doing business,\u201d said Silavwe. \u201cPresident Hichilema\u2019s economics is out of touch with the reality on the ground. It is un-relatable to the common man in our communities. President HH should come down to the Zambian earth now before it\u2019s too late for him if he really cares about his people. Once again, we call on the new dawn administration to initiate local intervention measures to protect the poor and local businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n
