Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND government should be commended for observing the National Day of Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation, former Republican President Edgar Lungu has said.<\/p>\n

Dr Lungu said that it was important for President Hichilema and his administration to continue recognizing and respecting the national day of prayers because it was an opportunity for Zambians to pray and seek God\u2019s counsel in the governance of the country.<\/p>\n

He said no one was special in the eyes of God and that as human mortals, there was need strive to do the right thing when upholding the Christian tenets in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cI must say to you my brother (President Hichilema), well done for upholding this day because it will give Zambians a chance and opportunity reflect and seek the face of God,\u201d former President Lungu said.<\/p>\n

President Edgar Lungu who congregated from Mtendere Parish in Lusaka yesterday said that neither he nor President Hakainde Hichilema were special and that there was need to humble \u201courselves\u201d. There is need for all of us to be humble because space and time comes to all of us,\u201d former President Lungu said.<\/p>\n

Dr Lungu said that there was nothing special about being President and that God worked with everyone regardless of their political affiliation. And Father Alfred Kabungo speaking during the celebration, advised Zambians from across the national divide that hurting each other only hurts the country and slows economic progress and unity.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Hakainde Hichilema shunned this year\u2019s event at the Show Grounds as vice president Mutale Nalumango led government in commemorating the event. The event was graced by notable individuals including former vice president Inonge Wina, former first lady Esther Lungu to name but a few.<\/p>\n

It was a different story on the Copperbelt as poor attendance characterised the observation of the day of National Prayer, Fasting, Repentance and Reconciliation in Ndola.<\/p>\n
