Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>The Zambia Fallen Heroes 1993 Foundation has officially been launched with a vision of sustainably maintaining the 1993 Gabon Disaster Heroes legacy.<\/p>\n

The foundation has been formed by the families of the 1993 Gabon Air Crash heroes who are on a mission to creatively, innovatively and independently run the foundation as an empowerment tool for the 1993 Gabon Disaster Fallen Heroes families.<\/p>\n

Foundation chairperson Tamalilapo Mtonga, daughter of late physician Wilson Mtonga said during the launch at Heroes Acre in Lusaka that the immediate 30 families of the late heroes have a desire to build a sustainable legacy lasting beyond the 28th April annual memorial.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs families, we will continue to celebrate their lives in perpetuity and collaborate with all relevant stakeholders and be a part of the fallen heroes cherished dream of getting Zambia to the World Cup for the first time and probably win it,\u201d Mtonga said.<\/p>\n

Mtonga appealed to corporate bodies to contribute funds towards the renovation of the fallen heroes\u2019 graves and surroundings at Heroes Acre that have become an eyesore due to passage of time.<\/p>\n

FAZ president Andrew Kamanga commended the families for coming up with the initiative and assured them of the FAZ Executive\u2019s total support.<\/p>\n

Speaking in a speech read on his behalf by FAZ deputy general secretary Joseph Chimpampwe, Kamanga praised the families for actualizing the idea of coming up with a foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter this launch, we shall engage more partners and work hand in hand with the families to ensure that the foundation is fully supported,\u201d Kamanga said.<\/p>\n

So far, Multichoice Zambia, Power Dynamos, Forest Rangers, ZANACO, Zambia Former Footballers Association, Liquid Technologies, Toyota and Premium Credit have come on board to support the Foundation.<\/p>\n

ZANACO Football Club Chairperson David Musunga paid tribute to the fallen heroes for laying the path of a strong football foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cTribute goes to the fallen heroes who set up the path for the success of Zambia in the years after the tragic event,\u201d Musunga said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wish to pay tribute to the children, families, the Football Association of Zambia and everybody who has come to support the Foundation to ensure that the legacy of our heroes continues.\u201d<\/p>\n

The launch was also attended by late Eston Mulenga and Numba Mwila\u2019s sons Patrick and Numba Junior, Godfrey Chitalu\u2019s daughter Chewe, Zambia Former Footballers Association chairperson Moomba N\u2019gandu, 2012 AFCON winner Chintu Kampamba and former Nkwazi coach Dennis Makinka among others.<\/p>\n
