Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>Zambia Women\u2019s national team midfielder Evarine Susan Katongo says the team will go to the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup to compete and not just add numbers. The Copper Queens booked their place at the global showpiece by reaching the semifinals of the 2022 Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations in July.<\/p>\n

Katongo who was key for the Bruce Mwape tutored side has set an ambitious target of winning the tournament as the team heads to New Zealand and Australia next year.<\/p>\n

The COSAFA Champions regroup over the weekend in Lusaka ahead of their trip to Colombia for two international friendly matches against the Power Puff Girls.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe preparations are going well so far. Everyone who is here is putting in a lot of effort.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new players are the ones we meet in the league so they are not really new and we are cooperating well. The Competition is very high because all of us want to go to the World Cup. We have a very good team and everyone is bringing in a lot of impact,\u201d Katongo said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs a team we have to win that game though it won\u2019t be easy. The game will determine the pace at which we are moving. We will see our mistakes from there so that we can correct them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a fair group but we are not going to underrate any team. We are going to the World Cup to compete and not add numbers so we will take every game seriously because we want to win the World Cup and bring it home,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

The Copper Queens and the Las Chicas Superpoderosas will face off in two international friendly matches on November 12th and 15th in Cali. Both teams are using the two matches as part of their preparations for the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup which will be co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. The Copper Queens were drawn in Group C for the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup alongside Spain.<\/p>\n
