Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>Zambian top referee Jan Sikazwe on Wednesday night took charge of his second FIFA World Cup game. Sikazwe was the centre referee as Belgium edged past wasteful Canada in their World Cup opener. The Zambian match official controlled the flow of the game with a touch of class.<\/p>\n

Michy Batshuayi scored Belgium\u2019s winner in their opening Group F opener against Canada. Batshuayi thrashed in Belgium\u2019s goal on the stroke of half-time with a vignette of clinical finishing.<\/p>\n

The ball was launched from deep, the Fenerbahce forward ran on to and lashed the ball past the Canada goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Alphonso Davies had his poorly taken 11th-minute penalty saved by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.<\/p>\n

At the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he also took charge of a match involving Belgium and Panama which was his debut at the global showpiece. The match also saw him going into the record books as he became the first Zambian referee to officiate a game at the FIFA World Cup finals.<\/p>\n

Sikazwe refereed the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup Final in Japan between Spanish club Real Madrid, representing UEFA as the reigning champions of the UEFA Champions League, and Japanese club Kashima Antlers, Real Madrid won the match 4-2 with Cristiano Ronaldo netting a hat-trick.<\/p>\n

The man from Kapiri Mposhi was also the center man in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Final in Gabon becoming the first Zambian to do so. Sikazwe was last year picked as one of only two center referees from Africa to officiate at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.<\/p>\n
