Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>DAUGHTER of United Party for National Development (UPND) founding father Anderson Mazoka, Mutinta has reportedly resigned from the ruling party for undisclosed reasons.<\/p>\n

In her Facebook posting last night, Ms Mazoka confirmed she had indeed left the UPND and that she had tendered her resignation on November 8, 2022. She however stated that beyond her confirmation that she had resigned from the ruling party, she was not available for media interviews.<\/p>\n

In her message captioned \u201cConfirmation of my departure from the UPND;\u201d Ms Mazoka said: \u201cI have received many messages from different people asking me the same question: Is it true you have resigned from the UPND? To everyone, and responding to these messages, I would like to confirm that I have indeed left the United Party for National Development (UPND). I resigned on 8th November, 2022. Beyond this confirmation, I am not available for media interviews. Thank you for your understanding,\u201d Ms Mazoka said in her Facebook posting.<\/p>\n

But UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa when contacted said that he was not aware of the resignation and could therefore not comment on the matter. Ms Getrude Imenda, the deputy secretary general of the UPND said it was news to her as she had not received any information to that effect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is news to me. Resign to go where? I have not received any information about that,\u201d Ms Imenda said.<\/p>\n

Social media was yesterday awash with news that Mutinta Mazoka, who is wife to Socialist Party leader Fred M\u2019membe had in fact tendered her resignation from the UPND on November 8, 2022.<\/p>\n

Ms Mazoka, in a two-paragraph letter dated November 8, 2022, is reported to have tendered her resignation to the UPND Secretary General, Mr Batuke Imenda. Efforts to get Mr Imenda failed as his mobile phone was off.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am hereby tendering my resignation from the UPND with immediate effect, I thank you and all the leaders and members of UPND I had the opportunity to work with.\u201d Ms Mazoka is reported to have written to Mr Imenda.<\/p>\n

But Mr Mweetwa said he was hearing the purported resignation of Ms Mazoka for the first time and could not give details on the matter because he had not been furnished with that information.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not heard about that resignation and I am really blank about that matter so I cannot give a comment,\u201d he said. Ms Mazoka prior to her resignation was an elected member of the ruling party\u2019s National Management Committee.<\/p>\n
