Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>FIVE men that were burnt during an explosion of a fuel tanker on Mungwi Road in Lusaka yesterday are stable, according to the Ministry of Health. <\/a>While onlookers were viewing horror, as a fuel tanker went up in flames, some men thought of going near to steal fuel.<\/p>\n

But five of them got burnt. Videos which are circulating online of the five is nothing but a sorry sight to watch as some victims who were admitted to health facilities could not stay steady as they moved up and down, wailing in pain.<\/p>\n

According to Zambia Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale, the victims were burnt after a Volvo tanker truck, which was carrying 45,000 litres of petrol destined for Vivo Energy in Mungwi Road, caught fire after the spare wheel underneath it, hit the ground at the gate area where the terrain was not good and fuel started to spill. No sooner had the driver parked to check the damage, than the people started looting the spilling fuel. \u201cIt was at that moment when the driver identified as Charles Karambera, a Zimbabwean aged 46… noticed a huge fire which extensively burnt the truck bearing registration numbers AFJ 9146 and AFQ 1452 property of Melabs Tradings of Zimbabwe.\u201d Mwale said through a statement.<\/p>\n

<\/a>Ministry of Health permanent secretary (technical services) Professor Lackson Kasonka confirmed the stability of the casualties, while Vice-President Mutale Nalumango visited the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) yesterday.<\/p>\n

Professor Kasonka said the victims suffered about eight to 30 percent burns but they were out of danger. <\/a>\u201cThey (victims) will survive,\u201d said professor Kasonka.<\/p>\n
