{"id":4748,"date":"2021-08-22T19:40:22","date_gmt":"2021-08-22T19:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zambia\/all-news\/malawian-president-chakwera-to-attend-hhs-inauguration"},"modified":"2021-08-22T19:53:50","modified_gmt":"2021-08-22T19:53:50","slug":"malawian-president-chakwera-to-attend-hhs-inauguration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zambia\/all-news\/malawian-president-chakwera-to-attend-hhs-inauguration","title":{"rendered":"Malawian President Chakwera to attend HH\u2019s inauguration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/\">Africa-Press<\/a> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/zambia\">Zambia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera is scheduled to travel to Lusaka, Zambia, to attend the inauguration of Hakainde Hichilema as Zambia\u2019s sixth President.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from Malawi\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation says President Chakwera will leave for Lusaka, Zambia, on Tuesday next week to attend the inauguration of the President-Elect of the Republic of Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore details of His Excellency the President\u2019s trip will be announced later,\u201d reads the statement issued a short while ago.<\/p>\n<p>Hichilema \u2013 who represented the United Party for National Development (UPND) in last week\u2019s general elections \u2013 beat the incumbent President Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the Patriotic Front. Lungu has served as Africa\u2019s leading copper producing nation for six years. He took over from late President Michael Sata, who died in office in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Hakainde Hichilema \u2013 or HH as he is popularly and fondly called by his supporters in Zambia \u2013 was arrested and jailed for treason by the Lungu administration after he disputed the election of the latter to the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>This was the sixth attempt by Hichilema to seek voters\u2019 authorisation to occupy the State House. Lungu has grudgingly accepted defeat and has committed to ensuring smooth transition of power in Zambia<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden has announced the designation of a Presidential Delegation to Zambia to attend the Inauguration of His Excellency Hakainde Hichilema on August 24, 2021, in Lusaka, Zambia.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Enoh T. Ebong, Acting Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency, will lead the delegation.Members of the Presidential Delegation:<\/p>\n<p>Mr. David J.
