Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>CORNELIUS Mweetwa, the chief Government spokesperson, has declared President Hakainde Hichilema eligible for another term. Addressing reporters in Monze, Mweetwa compared the President\u2019s performance to a student who scores above 50%, stating, \u201cPresident HH has qualified to graduate for another term in 2026 based on his performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

This statement comes in response to former President Edgar Lungu\u2019s recent remarks criticizing the current administration and calling for early elections.<\/p>\n

Mweetwa dismissed Lungu\u2019s claims, asserting that the UPND government \u201chas pushed far beyond the 50 percent mark\u201d on fulfilling its electoral promises.<\/p>\n

He challenged Lungu\u2019s credibility, questioning his claims of being in talks with the UPND\u2019s former sponsors. \u201cLooking up to president Lungu for leadership is very dangerous,\u201d Mweetwa declared, accusing the former leader of misleading the public with \u201clies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The press briefing highlighted contrasts between the current and previous administrations. Mweetwa emphasised the new government\u2019s focus on service, contrasting it with the PF\u2019s alleged misuse of funds.<\/p>\n

He further defended President Hichilema\u2019s foreign travels, claiming they bring tangible benefits unlike Lungu\u2019s \u201cfruitless\u201d trips with large delegations.<\/p>\n

In a final jab at the opposition, Mweetwa urged Lungu and his party to \u201chave a sense of shame\u201d for blaming the current problems on others. He expressed confidence that Zambians will favour President Hichilema for another term based on his \u201creconstruction\u201d efforts and commitment to peace.<\/p>\n
