Africa-Press<\/a> – Zambia<\/a>. <\/strong><\/span>Lusaka Province Minister Sheal Mulayta has assured public service workers in Lusaka that they will not be victimized on grounds of tribe or political affiliation.<\/p>\n

Ms Mulyata said the UNPD government does not want to victimize civil servants but to ensure unity in the implementation of government programmes in-line with the UPND manifesto.<\/p>\n

Addressing civil servants in the Lusaka district, Ms Mulyata advised civil servants to familiarize themselves with the UPND manifesto as they have a responsibility to implement the aspirations of the party in government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe role of politicians is to provide policy direction and you are supposed to implement the programmes,\u201d she said. She emphasized the need to improve the work culture of public service workers for the government to achieve its developmental goals.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis includes discipline, time keeping and zero tolerance to corruption being key in this area, the culture of nchekeleko (getting a cut) has to come to an end.\u201d She stated.<\/p>\n

The Provincial Minister stressed the need to ensure value for money in the use of public funds. She also noted that the government will embrace a multi-sectoral approach in the implementation of programmes.<\/p>\n

Ms Mulyata highlighted that the provincial administration will continue to provide resources for the implementation of developmental programmes stating that there is a need to reduce developmental disparities between rural and urban areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me also caution councils to ensure prudent utilization of resources for the benefit of citizens.\u201d She said.<\/p>\n

And Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Elias Kamanga warned that the government will bring to book those found involved in activities of corruption. \u201cThis government has made is clear that it will not condone corruption at any level.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Lusaka city Town Clerk Alex Mwaba cited floods, illegal land allocation and caderism in markets and bus stations as some of the major developmental challenges in the city.
