Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Judiciary has announced that chief justice Dr Mumba Malila has reported for work, seven weeks after he was involved in an accident in which sustained a fractured leg.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by deputy director corporate communications Kalumba Chisambisha-Slavin, Justice Malila has resumed his duties though he has not fully regained his health.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Judiciary of Zambia wishes to inform the public that the Honorable Chief Justice, Dr. Mumba Malila, SC, has resumed his official duties even as he continues to recover,\u201dSlavin stated.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn this regard, the Judiciary confirms that the Chief Justice will continue to receive treatment including physiotherapy sessions and appropriate medical reviews over the coming weeks until he fully recovers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justice Malila was on August 30, this year involved in an accident on his way home, when the driver of a speeding BMW lost control and rammed into his official Mercedes Benz with registration plate GRZ 1.<\/p>\n

Justice Malila was taken to Maina Soko Military hospital for treatment and was later evacuated to South Africa.<\/p>\n

The Driver of the BMW, Philemon Dyamini an examination officer at the Zambia Revenue Authority, was on Tuesday this week jailed for 18 months by the fast track court for dangerous driving.<\/p>\n

Magistrate Moffat Phiri also fined him K30, 000 for failing to change ownership of his vehicle.<\/p>\n

However, despite having returned for work, Justice Malila is depending on clutches to aid his mobility.<\/p>\n

The Chief Justice has offered his gratitude to Govemment for its support, and ensuring his ongoing treatment goes smoothly.<\/p>\n

He also lauded his deputy Justice Michael Musonda, for showing exemplary leadership and dedication by seeing to that the institution continued to function in his absence.<\/p>\n

Justice Malila also praised adjudicators and Judiciary staff for their commitment to duty.<\/p>\n

He also extended his gratitude to his medical team locally and in South Africa for their professionalism and compassionate care.<\/p>\n

\u201cLastly, he wishes to thank the public for their outpouring of prayers, well wishes, and support, which have been a source of strength to him and his family,\u201d said Slavin.<\/p>\n
