Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>In a remarkable display of pastoral care and solidarity, Archbishop of Lusaka, Most Rev. Dr. Alick Banda, accompanied by Vicar General Fr. Andrew Simpasa SJ, paid a compassionate visit to two young brothers, Elijah (26) and Ernest Kaumba (22), who have been in detention at Ridgeway Police Station for nearly two months.<\/p>\n

The brothers, originally from Kalulushi in the Copperbelt Province, were arrested on October 3, 2024, for allegedly mocking the President through a TikTok video.<\/p>\n

The Archbishop prayed with Elijah and Ernest, offering spiritual strength in their time of distress. He also brought them refreshments and food, extending a hand of comfort and care, especially as the brothers have no relatives in Lusaka to support them.<\/p>\n

The Kaumba brothers\u2019 arrest has sparked conversations about the boundaries of free expression in Zambia.<\/p>\n

Detained for their alleged satirical content on social media, the case raises questions about the balance between freedom of speech and respect for authority. As their detention reaches 58 days, many have expressed concern over the prolonged period without resolution.<\/p>\n
