Africa-Press – Zambia. <\/strong><\/span>Traders and Marketers at Kamwala Market in Lusaka are calling on the new dawn government to reverse the 65 year lease agreement of land where the market sits and now run by Chinese. The land was leased in 2002 for 65 years and the Chinese in charge have built a mall there.<\/p>\n

But in an interview with Phoenix News, some traders have complained that the piece of land is meant to benefit the country economically but is not the case and tenants mostly Zambians are overcharged for rentals, paying between K5000 and K23, 000 monthly. They note that this lease agreement has also only benefited the investors who take back money to their countries at the expense of Zambians.<\/p>\n

And an association that looks at the plight of traders in Kamwala trading area, Mother Land Traders Association Chairlady Doris Mainga says since 2002 when the land was leased to date, money has been recouped by these investors and has called on government to be more proactive in coming up with a plan that will favor Zambians. Efforts to get Local Government Minister, Garry Nkombo on the matter proved futile as his phone went unanswered.<\/p>\n
