Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A HARARE businessman appeared in court on Wednesday facing multiple charges, including threatening to shoot dead his estranged wife.
Nyasha Masoka (44) appeared before Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates Court charged with threats to commit murder, contempt of court, unlawful possession of a firearm and failure to renew a firearm certificate.
The State, represented by prosecutor Nomsa Kangara, alleged that Masoka, who operates Grill Shake & Liquor Park at Carswell Farm in Nyabira, violated a protection order granted by the Harare Magistrates Court on September 6, 2024.
The order barred him from threatening, abusing or visiting his estranged wife, Margaret Kapadza.
Despite the order, the court heard that on October 1, 2024, Masoka visited Kapadza’s residence armed with a.303 rifle.
He allegedly accused his ex-wife of infidelity, assaulted her and their son and ordered everyone out of the house at gunpoint, before leaving.
On May 10 this year, Masoka allegedly returned to the complainant’s residence in a drunken state and fired a shot into the air using a.22 Walther pistol.
Kapadza reportedly saw him holding the weapon and fled fearing for her life.
On May 12, detectives from CID Homicide Harare arrested Masoka at the complainant’s home.
He is said to have led them to the recovery of a.22 Walther pistol with three rounds and a.270 Salvage rifle with six live rounds hidden at his business premises.
He failed to produce valid firearm certificates for both weapons.
Masoka was granted US$150 bail and will be back in court on June 26.
