Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. GOVERNMENT has disbursed ZiG516,4 million to various local authorities for social infrastructural development and equipment procurement.
Finance deputy minister David Mnangagwa said this in Parliament while responding to questions from legislators.
He said the disbursement was part of the devolution programme aimed at supporting local development initiatives.
“To date, ZiG516,4 million has been disbursed to various local authorities targeting social infrastructural development and procurement of equipment,” Mnangagwa said.
“In spite of Treasury being committed to making quarterly devolution disbursements in line with the Zimbabwe Inter-governmental Fiscal Transfer Systems Administrative Manual, there is need for the benefiting tiers of government to have proactive engagements with the line ministry and Treasury to align cashflow disbursements to implementation plans to ensure that some of the targeted projects and programmes are effectively implemented and completed.
“Furthermore, the limited disbursements towards devolution have been on account of the need for government to support other competing needs including projects and programmes such as roads development programme.”
Regarding Kadoma, the actual cash resources availed to the local authority will be obtained from the Local Government and Public Works ministry.
