Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulation Authority of Zimbabwe (Potraz) has successfully equipped 35 individuals with disabilities from Manicaland and Mashonaland Central provinces with advanced skills as it moves to drive digital inclusivity.
The training, held in Nyanga, culminated in a certification ceremony last Friday.
Over five days, participants engaged in comprehensive training that covered essential topics such as internet surfing, cyberbullying awareness and online security.
The initiative was supported and facilitated by the Internet Society of Zimbabwe (ISOC), demonstrating a collaborative effort to enhance digital literacy among marginalised communities.
Addressing the participants, Potraz executive director Kennedy Dewera, representing director-general Gift Machengete, emphasised the importance of the initiative.
“These initiatives aim to bridge the divide between people with disabilities and their able-bodied peers, thereby fostering a more inclusive digital community,” Dewera said.
He also encouraged the participants to share their newfound skills within their communities.
“This essential training marks a significant step towards the empowerment and independence of people with disabilities,” Dewera said.
He reaffirmed Potraz’s commitment to supporting digital inclusivity.
“We will continue allocating resources towards this initiative,” he said.
Echoing the same sentiments, Tobias Mdlozera, Rushinga district chairperson for the National Council of Disabled Persons of Zimbabwe, expressed gratitude for the training.
“The training has not only enhanced our technical knowledge but also boosted our confidence in navigating the digital landscape. We believe this will significantly contribute to our personal and professional development,” he said.
Potraz’s ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts include supporting vulnerable communities through sustainable development initiatives, providing essential goods, healthcare and infrastructure.
