Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s tobacco industry has hit a new record, with sales for the 2025 marketing season reaching 316.8 million kilogrammes by 25 June—far surpassing the 216 million kilogrammes sold during the same period last year.
According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), the increased volume has earned farmers US$1.06 billion, with the average price remaining steady at US$3.35 per kilogramme. The TIMB said:
So far, a massive 316.8 million kgs have been sold, smashing last year’s total of 216 million kgs sold during the same period! Farmers have earned US$1.06 BILLION with an average price of $3.35 per kg as of 25 June 2025.
This makes the 2025 season one of the most profitable in recent years and highlights tobacco’s continued role as the country’s top agricultural export.
This year’s season began under stricter regulations to reduce side marketing and improve transparency. Measures such as a new biometric grower registration system were introduced to ensure only verified farmers could sell their crop.
Tobacco remains especially important for Zimbabwe’s rural economy, with over 80% of the crop produced by smallholder farmers.
It continues to be a major source of income for households and a key contributor to the country’s foreign currency earnings.
