Ecocash Agent Robbed Of US$1,180 In Cash And Airtime Cards In Chitungwiza

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Police in Chitungwiza have arrested a 32-year-old man, Providence Shumba, in connection with a daring robbery at an Ecocash outlet in Unit O, Seke, on the evening of June 25.
According to a statement by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the incident occurred around 8:30 PM when Shumba allegedly entered the shop and threatened two employees with an okapi knife while they were counting cash and airtime scratch cards.
He reportedly made off with US$180 in cash, airtime scratch cards valued at US$1,000, and two mobile phones.
The ZRP confirmed that both stolen phones and airtime worth US$500 have since been recovered. The statement reads:
Police in Chitungwiza arrested Providence Shumba (32) in connection with a robbery case which occurred on 25/06/25 at around 2030 hours.
The suspect pounced on an Ecocash shop in Unit O, where he threatened two complainants who were in the shop counting money and airtime scratch cards with an okapi knife while demanding cash.
He stole USD180 cash, USD1000 worth of airtime scratch cards and two cellphones. Police recovered the two stolen cellphones and USD500 worth of airtime scratch cards.
