Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Wildcats Handball Club is set to fly the country’s flag in a two-day international friendly matches against Zambia.

The games will take place this weekend at the OYDC Sports Centre in Lusaka.

As four-time ZUSA champions, the UZ Wildcats will bring a wealth of experience to the competition.

To strengthen the squad, the team will be bolstered by additional players selected from Zimbabwe’s top clubs, adding more depth and skill.

UZ Wildcats coach Valentine Masaiti shared his enthusiasm.

“We are honoured to be selected by the Zimbabwe Handball Federation to represent the country against the Zambian National Handball team,” Masaiti said.

“We are seizing this massive opportunity with both hands as it will expose our players and officials to international-quality handball.”

He added that they have called up 22 players, from which they will select the final 16 to travel.

“We believe that even with our limited preparation time for this match, dubbed the ‘Battle of the Zambezi’, we will silence our noisy neighbours by showcasing the skills and talent that have made us a formidable force in Zimbabwean handball. In this process, we will either win or learn,” Masaiti said.

This friendly is part of Zambia’s preparations for an upcoming trip to Algeria later this year.

They will be looking to test their skills against the formidable UZ Wildcats.
