Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. STATE-OWNED airline, Air Zimbabwe (Private) Limited (Air Zim), will launch daily return flights between Harare and Mutare ahead of next month’s Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo, with the route potentially becoming permanent if demand proves strong.
The 2025 edition of the expo, Zimbabwe’s premier international tourism exhibition, will be hosted in Mutare, Manicaland province, from September 10 to 12.
This year’s expo will place special emphasis on Manicaland’s adventure tourism offerings and investment opportunities, further cementing the province’s strategic importance within Zimbabwe’s tourism industry.
“Air Zimbabwe is proud to announce the introduction of daily return flights between Harare and Mutare from 8 to 14 September 2025, ahead of the highly anticipated Sanganai/Hlanganani World Travel Expo taking place from 10 to 12 September 2025 in Mutare,” the carrier said in a statement.
“This timely addition to the flight schedule forms part of Air Zimbabwe’s strategic turnaround initiatives, which include expanding the national carrier’s route network and improving domestic connectivity.”
The airline said the move reflected its unwavering commitment to making travel within Zimbabwe easier, more convenient and more accessible, thereby supporting the Tourism and Hospitality Industry ministry’s efforts to grow the tourism sector.
The daily return flights will avail to exhibitors, delegates and visitors an efficient way to travel to the expo and explore the region.
“This operation is a pilot project. We are testing the market, understanding demand and exploring the long-term viability of this route,” Air Zimbabwe chief executive officer Edmund Makona said.
“If the demand is there, Air Zimbabwe will be ready to make it a permanent feature of our network.”
The airline also revealed that passengers will be able to connect Victoria Falls, Harare and Mutare, enabling a multi-destination travel experience within Zimbabwe.
By offering flights ahead of the event, the airline said it was reaffirming its role as a key enabler of tourism growth and a committed partner in showcasing Zimbabwe’s attractions to the world.
“These Harare-Mutare flights are proof of our dedication to growth, our belief in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential, and our determination to keep the nation flying high.”
The national carrier has been working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, Airports Company of Zimbabwe, National Handling Services and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority to ensure all necessary infrastructure and support services are in place for a smooth operation.
