Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. ZESA Holdings has announced that Hwange Power Station’s Unit 3 will be taken offline for statutory maintenance from 10 September to 24 October 2025, a planned outage lasting 44 days.
In a statement on Wednesday, the power utility said the exercise was necessary to improve the unit’s availability and reliability.
During the maintenance period, Hwange Power Station will keep four units in operation to support national generation. The statement reads:
“ZESA Holdings wishes to inform its valued stakeholders that Hwange Unit 3 will undergo statutory maintenance from 10 September to 24 October 2025, a planned outage of 44 days. This exercise is essential to enhance the unit’s availability and reliability.
“During this period, Hwange Power Station will maintain four units in operation to support generation.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciate your understanding and continued support.
“ZESA Holdings remains committed to improving supply reliability and ensuring a sustainable energy future for all our customers.”
This development does not come as a surprise, as the power utility typically carries out statutory maintenance on its units towards the end of the year and the beginning of the new one.
It is expected that the newly built and more reliable Units 7 and 8 will also undergo the same process in the coming months — a prospect that could mean further blackouts for Zimbabweans.
