Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Hello, friends!
This week, yet another con artist emerged from the City of Kings.
Meet Tatenda Ncube, who, despite his innocent appearance, is the latest Instagram “cool kid” living far beyond his means.
This ruthless young man has exploited his squeaky-clean image to dupe desperate romantics.
Here’s how it works: Tatenda busily seduces unsuspecting women on WhatsApp, TikTok and Instagram with promises of love and affection.
Then, suddenly, an “emergency” strikes, and he needs US$20. Then another. And another.
The requests never stop. I found it hilarious and telling when a male friend of mine nearly fell for the scam, too.
Apparently, Tatenda also woos men with fake business proposals before hitting them up for petty cash. Watch your pockets, folks; another lazy boy is on the loose.
Councillor turned jailbird
Is it not amazing how quickly things can change?
Just look at the upside-down world of Emganwini ward councillor-turned-jailbird Mpumelelo Moyo.
The once-popular politician fell from grace after allegedly being caught red-handed soliciting a $20 000 bribe.
Talk about greed!
According to some press members, “power went to his head fast, and he forgot his friends, that’s why he is where he is today.”
I remember the multitudes of supporters, who staged protests for him during the CCC’s double candidacy drama.
There are lessons to be learned there! shaking my head.
Taekwondo display
This past weekend, I had a fantastic time at the Zimbabwe Music Academy at the Korean Festival in Bulawayo.
We danced, watched a spectacular Taekwondo display, and enjoyed a day of rich cultural exchange.
The event drew heavyweights like Bulawayo mayor David Coltart, Provincial Affairs minister Judith Ncube, and Korean ambassador to Zimbabwe Park Jae Kyung.
My only gripe? We were only given water to drink.
Aren’t major events like this budgeted for?
They could have at least provided some light snacks and drinks, especially considering the venue was packed.
Speaking of which, why is it that you all hardly show up for local arts programmes?
Hehe! Someone joked that people were attracted by the hosts’ silky hair and lighter skin—otherwise, make it make sense!
Despite that, the event was a success.
There were refreshing activities where Korean craftsmanship was taught, and local pupils sang along to K-pop.
Those of us in the older generation (with a few spiderwebs now) were taken down memory lane, reminiscing about classic Korean dramas like Sad Love Story, Boys Over Flowers, Jewel in the Palace, and the unforgettable Dong Yi: Wind of the Palace.
US$80 for a date??
Oh, how I laughed on Sunday night!
I stumbled upon an old episode of the Bulawayo Podcast featuring influencer Taffielyn, and she left me baffled.
With all her beauty and glamour, she opened her mouth and declared that anyone who wants to date her must provide about US$80 a day for taxi rides around town.
What? How? Why? Mathematically speaking, does that make sense?
Wouldn’t it be smarter to save that money for a car?
What “errands” could possibly cost that much every single day?
Sometimes, I wish Meta required five O’ Levels before letting people on Instagram—I just want to see something, kkkk.
Whatever happened to Denzel
Calling all soccer fans: whatever happened to Denzel Khumalo?
The once-brilliant young man has vanished into thin air.
Besides being super talented, he was full of scandal and drama during his days at Highlanders.
I recall him stabbing the tire of the coach’s car, slapping a coach, making unauthorised trips to South Africa, and being fond of steamy affairs with much older women.
He was reality show material! If anyone knows where he is, please tell us.
Let’s give BCC a Bells
Finally, a round of applause for the Bulawayo City Council’s nutrition garden program across the city.
What stood out to me was officer Sihle Mabhena’s insightful lecture on the importance of a governing constitution for communities.
Her clear and respectful explanation was profound and worth noting, a rare departure from the arrogance often associated with BCC officers.
Cheers, my friends! Let’s keep in touch on Instagram: find us at @SouthernEye / @SE.
