Munetsi names Kaizer Chiefs legend as his hero

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Marshall Munetsi, the Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder, has spoken candidly about the legendary Kaizer Chiefs star Tinashe Nengomasha whom he looks up to as he forged his path to the English Premier League.

The Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder-cum-striker is enjoying his stay in the English Premier League, having joined in February 2025 from Stade Reims of France.

This season, the 29-year-old has featured in all four league matches played so far, with one assist under his belt. However, Wolves are at the bottom of the table with nothing to show for their efforts.

In an interview conducted by Wolves, Munetsi was asked to pick his best five-a-side team from his home country, Zimbabwe.

While he also included the likes of Norman Mapeza, the late goalkeeper George Chigova, Knowledge Musona and Khama Billiat, Munetsi revealed he has always looked up to former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Tinashe Nengomasha.

The retired footballer, Nengomasha, remains one of the most celebrated Zimbabweans to grace Chiefs and the Betway Premiership.

“For my five-a-side goalkeeper from Zimbabwe, I have to go for the late George Chigova. I also played with him and because of his presence in the box and his ability to play from the back. I think he’s one of the best for me,” declared Munetsi.

“For defenders, this was probably tough, but since it’s a five-a-side, I’ll go for Norman Mapeza. He played for Galatasaray. He was a quality defender. One of the best that has ever been produced from our country.

Munetsi said he wears jersey number eight for Zimbabwe because he was inspired by Nengomasha’s brilliance during his playing days. Nengomasha donned the same jersey number during his playing days.

“In midfield, I will go with Tinashe Nengomasha. He is somebody whom I really looked up to. That’s why I also wear the jersey number eight for Zimbabwe. He is my inspiration.

“I will take Peter Ndlovu. Being the first African player to play in the Premier League, he really represented us very well. And I will also take Knowledge Musona. He has been pivotal to our football team for many years now, and I think his ability to score is impressive.

“That’s why it’s difficult to choose five. I would prefer to go for eleven. A whole team, that’s easier.

“I will also go for Khama Billiat. He was Africa’s best player. He has been playing for Zimbabwe for a very long time. So I think I will add Khama Billiat,” added Munetsi.
