Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. BUSINESSMAN and Zanu PF benefactor Kudakwashe Tagwirei yesterday donated 300 vehicles to the ruling party’s central committee members, with more vehicles meant for politburo members and other top Zanu PF officials set to be availed in a fortnight.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa handed over the first batch of 30 vehicles to central committee members at State House, Harare, in a move aimed at strengthening party mobilisation and grassroots engagement.
The donation comes barely 48 hours after Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga called for the arrest of Tagwirei, along with Wicknell Chivayo and gold dealer Scott Sakupwanya as well as GeoPomona boss Delish Nguwaya.
Chiwenga claimed that Tagwirei siphoned at least US$3,2 billion through Zanu PF’s shadowy 45% stake in Sakunda Holdings.
He made the allegations at Wednesday’s politburo meeting in Harare.
Yesterday, Mnangagwa said the vehicles remained the property of Zanu PF and should be used to advance the party’s mission.
The donation comes after the Sakunda boss donated US$3 million towards the annual Zanu PF conference to be held in Mutare next month.
Tagwirei was recently nominated for co-option into the central committee under Harare Province despite resistance from other Zanu PF officials.
NewsDay Weekender is reliably informed that Tagwirei, a staunch Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church member, is set to donate more vehicles to Zanu PF politburo members and all top six provincial members, including political commissars.
He is also reportedly set to donate vehicles to all Zanu PF district co-ordinating committee chairpersons as well as politburo deputy secretaries.
The business tycoon has so far donated a cool US$20 million to Zanu PF in the last seven years.
