Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A ZANU PF Goromonzi Ward 11 councillor, Hamilton Manyika, who allegedly proposed love and indecently assaulted four male learners at his private school, this week appeared at the Murewa Magistrates Court, where he was denied bail as investigations continue.
Investigating officers in Juru told the court that more victims were likely to come forward after his arrest.
Manyika owns Noble Grip, a private school located along Old Murewa Road near Juru Growth Point, popularly known as PaBhora.
He is also Goromonzi Rural District Council’s human resources committee chairperson.
He will return to court on September 30 for routine remand.
According to police documents in possession of this paper, police officers received a tip-off to the effect that the accused wanted to have oral sex with one of the boys aged 17 from his school.
Police laid a trap, but failed to nail the accused on the spot as planned.
Further investigations by the police led to four complainants (names withheld) coming forward and opening up on several cases of abuse.
The first complainant revealed that Manyika had a tendency of asking for sexual favours from him at school or through WhatsApp and text messages.
The complainant revealed that in July this year, he was invited by the accused to his office and ordered to lower his pants so that he would check if he was still a virgin.
The first complainant was then invited again to the accused’s office where he was kissed against his will before being offered some chicken and money.
The second complainant, an Upper Six student, told the police that Manyika offered him and his brother scholarship at his school.
The brothers were then enrolled as borders at the accused’s learning centre.
It is alleged that Manyika appointed one of the brothers as his personal assistant, whose role was to frequent the office to run some errands.
It is alleged that Manyika had oral sex with the brother who doubled as his personal assistant (PA) without his consent.
The complainant then notified the school headboy, who counselled him, but failed to escalate the case due to fear.
It is reported that the complainant started avoiding the accused before he was demoted from the role of being his PA.
Sometime in September last year, another learner, a Form 4 student aged 18, was appointed as the accused’s PA instead.
After the appointment, Manyika reportedly bought a new designer suit for the complainant.
Manyika allegedly asked for sexual favours from the complainant quoting Bible verses, but the complainant turned him down.
After some days, Manyika allegedly accused the complainant of playing around with some girls at the school and hence he wanted to check his virginity.
It is reported that during that moment, Manyika would kiss the boy around his neck without his consent.
The complainant then started absconding school due to Manyika’s actions.
The fourth complainant, aged 15 and is in Form 3 at the same school, revealed that sometime in August he was sexually harassed by the accused.
After his arrest, pictures of Manyika clad in a dress and surrounded by learners at his school have gone viral on social media, with parents at Juru pleading with police to investigate more sexual abuses at the school.
