Harare men granted bail over drug possession

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. TWO Harare men have been granted US$100 bail each by the High Court over drug possession after spending three weeks in remand prison.

Simbarashe Kaseke and Wellington Ncube were granted bail on Friday by High Court judge Justice Joseph Mafusire.

The duo, which was being represented by Tawanda Takaindisa of TK Law Chambers, was ordered to surrender its passports to the clerk of court at Harare Magistrates Court, not to interfere with State witnesses and to report weekly at the CID Drugs, Harare.

Kaseke and Ncube were implicated by Robert Mugabe Junior as suppliers of drugs.

The duo was denied bail by magistrate Lisa Mutendereki, saying they are not suitable candidates for bail, adding that they are flight risks if granted bail, as they are facing a serious offence.

Allegations are that on October 1, detectives from CID Drugs reacted to information that there was drug peddling taking place at Number 38 Boscobel Drive, Highlands, Harare.

At the scene, Wellington Ncube was searched and found in possession of seven sachets of Indo hybrid dagga and two pink Ecstasy pills in his pockets.

Upon being questioned about the source of the drugs, he implicated Kaseke as the owner of the drugs, who is his employer.

Kaseke was found in the house, and a search was conducted on him.

He was found in possession of 15 transparent sachets of Indo Hybrid dagga and four pink Ecstasy pills, which were in his back pockets.

The dagga, which was weighed in the presence of the duo, had a mass of about 26 grammes with a street value of US$380.
