Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Old Mutual Zimbabwe has handed over five newly furnished doctors’ call rooms at Harare Children’s Hospital, demonstrating its commitment to community welfare and healthcare support.
The refurbished facilities are equipped with new beds, reading desks and chairs, cupboards, linen and blankets, microwave ovens, fans, and kitchenware. The donation aims to create a more comfortable and dignified working environment for doctors and health workers caring for children in the hospital’s seven wards, which have a total of 240 beds.
The initiative was undertaken in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Harare West, which approached Old Mutual in 2023 to assist with the renovation of the call rooms. The partnership highlights how collaboration between the private sector and civic organisations can deliver meaningful community impact.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Old Mutual’s Marketing, Public Affairs & Sustainability Executive, Lillian Mbayiwa, said the project recognises the vital role played by healthcare professionals.
“Too often, we focus on patients’ care and recovery, but sometimes we overlook the needs of those who make that healing possible — our doctors and healthcare teams,” she said.
Mbayiwa added that by improving doctors’ working conditions, Old Mutual aims to promote better healthcare outcomes and strengthen the country’s health system.
The company continues to support healthcare and community initiatives across Zimbabwe. Recent projects include the Eye Camp programme, launched with the Eye Institute of Zimbabwe to provide free cataract surgeries and eye screenings, and the Winter Warmer campaign, which distributed blankets to hospitals, mental health institutions, and children’s homes nationwide.
Old Mutual says such initiatives reflect its belief that sustainable progress begins with investing in people and communities.
