Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, Nov. 13 (NewsDay Live) – The son of Zimbabwe’s former President, Robert Mugabe, yesterday pleaded guilty before Harare magistrate Lisa Mutendereki to charges of drug possession, and was fined US$300.
During mitigation, Robert Mugabe Jr (33), through his lawyer Ashiel Mugiya, submitted that he is a first-time offender and a single father of two children.
Mugiya further told the court that Mugabe earns US$7,000 per month and requested that he be given a non-custodial sentence and a fine.
The defence counsel argued that Mugabe is not a habitual drug user. The State, however, had submitted that the accused should serve as an example to the community and wanted him to be admitted to a rehabilitation facility.
