Cimas @80 media awards set to debut tonight in Bulawayo

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, Nov. 21 (NewsDay Live) – The inaugural Cimas @80 media awards are set to take place tonight at a Bulawayo hotel, with Cimas Health Group announcing that all preparations for the ceremony are complete.

Launched in September as part of Cimas Medical Aid Society’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the awards are supported by the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and are designed to honour journalists who have excelled in health reporting.

The competition features four categories Healthcare Transformation, Health and Wellness, Excellence in Medical Innovation, and Public Health Awareness. It was open to journalists across print, broadcast, digital media, and independent bloggers, who were required to publish stories between September 12 and October 31.

According to Cimas, the awards attracted an overwhelming 120 entries, reflecting growing interest in health journalism and the media’s commitment to spotlighting national health issues.

Speaking ahead of the event, Cimas Health Group CEO Vuli Ndlovu expressed gratitude for the media’s role in promoting health literacy.

“As we celebrate 80 years of Cimas Medical Aid Society’s service, we are honoured to recognise journalists who tell powerful, life-changing health stories,” he said. “The media plays a vital role in shaping a healthier and more informed society.”

Cimas has been consistent in supporting ethical health journalism, including sponsoring the Health Reporter of the Year category at the National Journalism and Media Awards (NJAMA) for two consecutive years.
