CMED Acquires 20 Chrome Mine Claims

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. CMED (Private) Limited has secured 20 chrome mining claims as part of its strategy to diversify.

The company used to hold exclusive rights to supply fuel to all government ministries and departments, but that changed in 2022 when the government shifted 90 per cent of its fuel procurement to Petrotrade, another state-owned entity.

CMED says the move has hit cash flow hard and stalled plans to modernise its infrastructure.

CMED operates under a broad mandate, providing essential transport services and heavy equipment for major infrastructure projects, including roads, dams, and bridges.

At a strategic workshop in Bulawayo in November 2025, management revealed early success at the company’s Mapinga chrome mine, where high-grade chrome ore is being extracted.

The mine has yielded a premium 54.5 per cent grade, above the regional average for the Great Dyke.

Since operations began earlier this year, the mine has produced 700 tonnes of ore. CMED plans to boost production to 1 000 tonnes per month by bringing in additional machinery and equipment.
