Congolese Man Deported After Assaulting Guard

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 38-year-old Congolese man is set to be deported from Zimbabwe following his conviction on assault charges at the Harare Magistrates’ Court.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), on 12 December 2025 Bokolo Katomba, while on remand at Harare Remand Prison, became violent towards fellow inmates.

A 36-year-old prison officer on duty tried to intervene, but Katomba struck him multiple times all over his body with rubber truncheons, leaving the officer with various injuries.

Katomba was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment, which was wholly suspended for five years. The court also issued a deportation order, meaning he will be removed from the country.
