I’m Not Fighting Personalities, But A System – Mahere

Lawyer and government critic Advocate Fadzayi Mahere says the struggle for a better Zimbabwe is not directed at individuals, but at a system of poor governance that has pushed the country into its current problems.

In a post on X, Mahere said she makes no apologies for opposing corruption and incompetence among the elite. She added that she is fighting for a system of governance that benefits every citizen. Said Mahere:

“It’s a fight against a system that enjoys mediocrity, that worships corruption, that champions cutting corners, that destroys values, that kills fairness, that explains away incompetence, that loves injustice, that disrespects hard work, that hates education, that fights genuine progress, that excludes the masses, that props up elites, that avoids accountability, that stifles growth, that insults the poor, that disrespects the young, that detests excellence and that kills dreams.

“It’s a fight against a system that has reduced a Jewel of a nation into a pothole-ridden, dirty, kiya-kiya, uninspiring, mbinga-loving, opportunity-starved, unfair, poverty-stricken, divided, ever-losing, ever-looting, green-rivered, powerless shadow of itself.

“I make no apologies for this fight because this country deserves to be a success story where every person can afford three decent meals a day, everybody has a shot at opportunity, and functional basic services are the norm, not the exception.”
