Police have warned businesses and individuals not to share details of cash movements on WhatsApp or other social media platforms, following an armed robbery at a fuel station in Macheke.
In a statement on Friday, 23 January, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the robbery occurred after a service station manager had posted information about cash collected from stations in Murambinda, Nyazura, and Macheke while travelling to Harare for banking. The statement reads:
“The ZRP warns companies and individuals against posting cash movement details on WhatsApp groups or other social media platforms.
“This follows a robbery incident at a service station in Macheke, where USD12 002, a Toyota Aqua vehicle (Reg No. AFP 4750) and four cell phones were stolen.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that one of the service station managers had posted details of collected cash from service stations in Murambinda, Nyazura and Macheke while en route to Harare for banking.
“The vehicle was recovered, dumped at the 74 kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road, Marondera.”
