The wife of an opposition Member of Parliament has reportedly joined the ruling ZANU-PF party.

Nancy Mafudza Mhetu, married to Epworth North MP Zivai Mhetu of the CCC, said she was drawn to ZANU-PF by the notable economic developments spearheaded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

In an interview with The Herald, Mhetu said that it made little sense to remain in opposition when the country is making significant economic progress under ZANU-PF.

When asked whether her decision might affect her marriage, Mhetu replied that she has the right to support the political party of her choice. She said:

“I was raised in a ZANU PF family, so I want to return home. Yes, my husband is in the opposition: it’s his choice.

“Who knows, he might even join ZANU PF in the future. Zimbabwe is a democratic nation.

“It’s of no use to remain in opposition politics when everyone joins the ruling party. I will try to encourage him to join ZANU PF.”

Mhetu praised Taurai Kandishaya, ZANU-PF Youth League Deputy Secretary for the Commissariat, for convincing her to join the ruling party.
