Eight Killed In Two Separate Head-On Collisions On Zimbabwe Roads

Four people were killed, and one person was seriously injured in a head-on collision on Tuesday, 27 January, at the 195 km peg along the Harare–Mutare Road.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said a Freightliner truck travelling towards Mutare tried to overtake another vehicle while there was oncoming traffic. The truck then collided head-on with a Mazda Bongo carrying four passengers.

All four people in the Mazda Bongo, including the driver, died at the scene. One passenger was seriously injured.

The bodies of the victims were taken to Rusape General Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured person was also taken there for treatment.

In a separate accident on Monday, 26 January, at the 86 km peg along the Harare–Mukumbura Road, a Nissan Latio carrying two passengers lost control and swerved into the oncoming lane. It collided head-on with a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter carrying 21 passengers.

Police said all three people in the Nissan Latio and one passenger from the Sprinter died at the scene. Twenty other passengers were injured.

The bodies of the four victims were taken to Bindura Hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the injured were treated at the same hospital.
