The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has launched a new national programme to promote and reward academic excellence across the education system.

Announcing the initiative on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, Minister Torerayi Moyo said the Ministry will recognise and award the Top 10 best-performing schools in each province.

The awards will be based on the schools’ 2025 results at Grade 7, Ordinary Level, and Advanced Level. Said Moyo:

“This recognition is a celebration of high-performing schools that have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to academic achievement and the holistic development of learners in the provision of equitable, inclusive and quality education in line with SDG 4.

“In addition, we’ll also identify the top 5 best performing schools in the 2025 Zimbabwe School Examinations Council and Cambridge examinations and reward them accordingly on 20 March 2026.

“Such schools will serve as beacons of excellence and inspiration for others across the entire country, setting a benchmark for quality education and academic performance.”

Moyo said individuals, well-wishers, companies, and development partners who want to support the initiative are welcome to do so.

He also called for sponsorships, awards, grants, or any other forms of assistance to motivate hardworking teachers and headmasters.

Anyone wishing to contribute should contact the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Head Office) through the official communication channels.
