Bus Driver Injured After Attempting To Beat Train At Level Crossing In Hwange

A mine bus driver was injured on Wednesday morning after the vehicle was struck by a train at a level crossing in Hwange.

The accident occurred at the Old Hwange Number 2 crossing, where the driver attempted to beat an approaching train but failed to clear the tracks in time. The bus was hit by the train, and the driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said the 72-seater bus, which belongs to a local coal mining company, tried to cross the railway line as the train was approaching.

At the time of the incident, the bus was carrying only the driver and three passengers. All four survived the collision.

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) reminded drivers that the law requires them to stop at level crossings, even when no train is in sight.
