The body of a four-year-old pupil from Chiredzi Government Primary School’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) class, who went missing from school on Tuesday, was found on Wednesday.
Steadfast Makondo was discovered by a search party in a bushy area in New Town, about 500 metres from the school.
She went missing at around midday. Her school transporter raised the alarm after failing to find her at school when he arrived to pick her up.
Steadfast’s mother is a teacher at Hippo Valley High School. Her maternal uncle, Vigilance Livombo, confirmed her death to Masvingo Mirror. He said:
“We were searching for the other end, and we received information that her body was found on the other side of where we were searching. We are still waiting to get more information on what caused her death.”
Her disappearance was reported to the police. On Wednesday, a joint search involving teachers from Hippo Valley High School and Chiredzi Government Primary School, members of the Chiredzi community, and the police was carried out, leading to the discovery of her body.
